Research Grants Advisor and Project Manager
Job Description
In this hybrid role, you will support researchers in securing competitive funding and managing complex international research projects. You will guide scientists through the full grant lifecycle from idea to implementation.
Your Responsibilities Include
- Identifying and assessing suitable funding opportunities for researchers.
- Collaborating with scientists to develop and write high-quality proposals (e.g. Horizon Europe, ZonMw, NIH).
- Translating complex grant requirements into clear, actionable project plans.
- Supporting the department’s strategic funding agenda and fostering collaborations.
- Leading operational management of awarded research projects, including planning, reporting, budgeting, and compliance.
- Acting as the key contact point for internal and external stakeholders, such as consortium partners and funding agencies.
- Monitoring progress, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring smooth project delivery.
The balance between Grants Advisor and project management tasks depends on your background and departmental needs and may evolve over time.
Work environment
Erasmus MC is the largest University Medical Center in the Netherlands and a leading institute for healthcare, research, and education. The Department of Viroscience is internationally recognized for its research in molecular virology, immunology, epidemiology, and intervention studies on viral infections in humans and human-animal interface
You will join the Viroscience Project Office, a dedicated team of Grant Advisors and Project Managers working closely with over 100 researchers. The office operates within the department’s laboratories, led by the Coordinator Project Office and reporting directly to prof. dr. M. Palmarini, Head of Department. You will collaborate with colleagues from Finance, Legal Affairs, the Technology Transfer Office, and the Research Development Office.
Qualifications And Skills
You are motivated, proactive, and eager to make an impact in research support. You combine analytical thinking with excellent communication and coordination skills.
You Bring
- A proven track record in writing or editing successful grant proposals.
- Experience with Dutch and European R&D funding schemes (e.g. Horizon Europe).
- Experience in research or innovation project management.
- An academic working and thinking level (HBO/University).
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex scientific or administrative concepts into clear messages.
- A proactive, solution-oriented attitude and the ability to work independently and in teams.
- Resilience under pressure and a positive, flexible mindset.
- A sense of humor and a “glass half full” outlook.
Terms of employment
- You will receive a temporary position for 2 years, with the opportunity for extension.
- The gross monthly salary is between € 4.818,- and € 6.594,- (scale 11) based on a full-time workweek of 36 hours. Depending on experience, grading in scale 12 is possible, with a salary between € 5.847,- and € 7.424,-.
